The Blood of Dawnwalker is an open-world RPG that sees you, Coen, trying to rescue your family using a mixture of human and vampiric abilities. There's also witchcraft if that takes your fancy, but ultimately, you'll be spending most of your time draining the blood of others and taking down the formidable vrakhiri who threatens your family: Brencis.

Below, you'll find some tips and tricks to help you get started with The Blood of Dawnwalker.

Don't worry about time too much outside of the prologue   

While the events of The Blood of Dawnwalker's prologue can be quite intense, especially once you learn how important the actions you do and don't take are, don't let this make you worry too much about the next 30 days of gameplay.

While keeping an eye on the clock is important in terms of whether you're in human or vampire mode and the points of interest you can access (watchtowers can only be accessed at night, for example), it's otherwise not too damning. There will inevitably be some side quests that you fail and that's okay. As long as you're pursuing the main objective and completing timed quests quickly, you'll still have plenty of time left over to pursue other objectives at your leisure; such as seeking out a romantic companion, or helping the locals with whatever is troubling them…

Climb watchtowers at night to find more quests   

During the beginning of your playthrough and as you venture between regions, keep an eye out for watchtowers. Coen normally makes a remark once you're nearby one, and climbing to the top of one and scouting the surrounding areas will add new quests to your map for you to go and check out. Note that you can only climb these towers at night, as you'll need Coen's Shadowstep Vampiric Skill to climb them.

Use Voracious Bite wherever possible   

Even if your health is full while taking to the night as a vampire, you should always be using Voracious Bite on animals and enemies wherever possible. You can use it on innocent NPCs too, but any guards lurking nearby may have something to say about that…

Using Voracious Bite to drain the blood of others, even if your health is full, is important, because it raises your Corruption Level. This is the small circle icon beside your health bar at night, and it fills further every time you drink some blood. Each time you fully fill the circle icon, your Corruption Level then increases. This is important because your Corruption Level is directly tied to unlocking and upgrading your Vampiric Skills, so if you want to maximise your damage and unlock some new, interesting Skills to use, make sure you're draining blood and topping up your Corruption Level even when you don't need to.

Unlock Haste (Shapeshift and Mercurial Fervour) to traverse the map faster   

Haste is something I did not unlock until much later in my playthrough because the ability to shapeshift into a wolf didn't seem all that important to me when compared to my damage output or stamina. I also thought Coen moved pretty swiftly across Laslea and beyond ultimately. But to put it simply, I was wrong, and you should unlock the Vampiric Shapeshift Skill – and the Witchcraft Mercurial Fervour Skill – as soon as you're able.

This allows you to use haste. At night, this uses the Shapeshift Skill which transforms you into a wolf who is capable of moving across the map much faster than Coen is naturally. During daytime, haste instead uses the Mercurial Fervour Skill, which allows you to move faster by slowing down the world around you. Without horses or other mounts to travel with, these two skills are your best bet for quick traversal between objectives.
